Account "Set as Default" greyed out (Outlook 2007)

Jon Limmer

An Outlook 2007 user was switched from an Exchange account to simple POP3
access for another mail server. He removed the POP3 account (but not the
data file) and created an IMAP account to the same mail server. There is
now only one account listed on the E-mail tab and two data files (one from
the POP3 setup and holding his email) and one supporting the IMAP account.

The E-mail account does not say "(send from this account by default) and the
"Set as Default" option is greyed out. On the "Data File" tab, the original
"POP3" data file is listed as the default. When I select the data file for
the IMAP account, the "Set as Default" option remains greyed out. Of
course, when I try to remove the first one, it declares that I have to
select a different data file as the default before I can remove it.

Additionally, sent email was being placed in the original "POP3" account's
Sent folder until I overrode the default (<theAccount->Change-> E-mail
Settings->Folders" from the default (first option) to "Choose an existing
folder" (second option) and then clicked on "Sent" in the IMAP account.

I believe I need to set the email account as the default (on the first tab).
If not, either way how can I change the default (email account and/or data
file)?

Any help?

Thanks.
Jon

Thanks for the reply. Why is that the case?

Jon

Presumably because an IMAP account doesn't "deliver" messages locally,
it mirrors the folders on the IMAP server.

And please quote at least the relevant bits of the post you are replying
to - I had to hunt for the thread to see what you were talking about....
Thank you.
