Accounting Calendars

Ken Frost

My companies accounting calendar rarely ends on the last
day of the month. Is there a method to change the
Project Calendar to correspond to my companies calendar?
I want my earned value reports to correspond to the
company calendar and labor reporting periods.

Thanks,
Ken

Ken,
Unfortunately no. No version of Project provides for an accounting month
calendar. However, a VBA macro can be written to create the earned value
reports you need based on whatever company accounting month calendar you
have. I have written a couple of macros to do just that. If you are
interested, contact me direct.

I have had the same question for months and may have finally found the
answer. Will the macro created show the breakout, whatever it will be, in
fiscal months on the grid in the task usage view. By showing the correct
hours dumped in the fiscal month this will allow me to provide information
without having to export to our cost software MPM. If you could provide me
with more info on the macro's you have created I would be interested in
discussing this further.

Kyle,
Unfortunately the Usage views in Project cannot be modified either
through settings or VBA to show accounting month data. To get around
this limitation, the macro exports all the necessary data to Excel where
it can be formatted in any way desired.

Your mention of MPM is interesting. My company's EVMS (earned value
management system) uses Project as the schedule management application.
The appropriate data is then dumped into MPM, as I recall through a
FoxPro interface. I wrote the macro so the individual CAMs (cost account
managers) could see their plans presented in accounting month format
before it entered the formal (i.e. MPM) database.

If you would like more information, including screenshots of the user
interface and sample output worksheets, write me direct.

Kyle,
Yes I received it. There was apparently a problem with the newsgroup and
Google because when I looked yesterday I couldn't even find the original
post.

Expect my e-mail reply later today or tomorrow.
