Accounting for People Resources

Hi All,

I have trouble with this so thought a simple scenario would help
understanding and may help others, too.

4 tasks
2 people resources
Sept 1st start
7-day work week
No dependencies except people time & D noted below

Tasks in days (elapsed time):
Michele - A-4 days & B-1 day
Lola - C-2 days & D-2 days where D has a Finish to Start dependency on
A

Michele should be done in 5 days (end of day on Sept 5th)
Lola should be done in 6 days with a 2-day buffer between C & D

What is the best/easiest way to schedule these 4 tasks? One should be
able to enter the 4 tasks with their people resources and the one
dependency, then Project should automatically figure out the rest,
i.e. Michele cannot do Task B until she is finished Task A, but Lola
can start Task C right away.

Very much appreciated,

Michele

Sorry, either 2003 or 2007 would work for me.

Hello Michele,

I would enter the tasks and resources as you suggest. As scheduled
Michele is overallocated because of the overlap in time between task A
& B. Resource leveling (Tools > Level Resources) will adjust the
start of task B to follow the end of Task A.

If later it is found that Lola could take on task B, replace Michele
with Lola and level the resources again. Even though no one is
overallocated, as long as the option "clear leveling values before
leveling" is checked the delay added to task B to resolve the
original overallocation with Michele will be lessened and Lola will
work on C, then B then D. Michele has now completed in 4 days, Lola
still takes 6 days but only has one day "off."
