Accounting Student Help with Excel

Boogshag

Im a college student in accounting, and my 5 month old Dell has had a million problems and Ive had enough of it...so Im really looking at Macs. My father mentioned Macs have limited capabilities with office, particularly with Excel. Like I said, Im an accounting student, how much could these setbacks hurt me? I have a potential free copy of office 04 for the mac, is that a better choice than 08? Also, what are some other limits with Macs office compared to Windows (specifically 04 edition). Thanks a lot for your help, im a newb!

Strictly personal opinion here :)

If you want to go Mac & intend to use Office 2004 you should do fine for
most any discipline. It most closely aligns with the Windows product at this
point. Although there are *differences* I wouldn't necessarily call them
"limits" - each has features & capabilities the other doesn't.

Unfortunately your Dad is pretty much on track about Office 2008 because of
the fact that it doesn't support VBA (macros).

Keep in mind also that if you're buying a new Mac you'll be able to run
Windows & Windows apps on it (if worst comes to worst) - but you can't run
Mac OS on a PC:)
