Acrobat 7.0 and Word - Won't Retain Measurement Units in Word

Kathy

Just upgraded to Acrobat 7.0 with Word XP. Have installed 7.0.5. The
Measurement Units in Word is 'Inches', when using PDFMaker to create
pdf the Measurement Units is changed to 'Points' (I believe during the
save). After the pdf is created and the Word document is re-accessed,
the Measurement Units value has been changed to 'Points'. Any ideas? I
can change the Word setting using Tools/Options, but Acrobat keeps
changing it back.

The Acrobat 7 add-in for Word prevents saving any changes to
Normal.dot. See the last section of
http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adobe_acrobat_toolbar.htm for a
procedure to remove it.

Performed the change suggested (Options.UseCharacterUnit =False). The
change did not correct my problem with the Measurement Units changing
after creating pdf. Any other ideas?

Also received suggestion 'Lose that Adobe Acrobat Toolbar' - I have no
issue with the Acrobat Toolbar being displayed or it's placement. Am I
wrong in assuming that turning off the toolbar will have no affect
regarding this issue.

Will the change to the Measurement Units have any affect on my
documents, or is this a 'display' issue only within Word?

Perhaps this has something to do with settings in Acrobat? Does it have a
setting for default measurement units?

We have the Measurement Units value in Acrobat set to Inches. We use
our own Normal.dot - is this an issue?

What do you mean by 'we use our own normal.dot'? Do you mean a common
normal.dot shared by all? Or do you mean that each user has their individual
normal.dot. Normal.dot should *never* be shared. Also only Word can create
normal.dot, so any attempt to substitute normal.dot with a created file of
this name will not work correctly. You must use a Word created normal.dot
and modify it to your requirements.

Acrobat 7's add-in prevents changes to normal.dot from being saved.
http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adobe_acrobat_toolbar.htm shows how to turn
it off and/or work around the problem.

I would suggest that you check out orphan files -
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm and work through the
tips at http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm to see what
is interfering with the correct operation. If all else fails ask the
question in Adobe's forum as Acrobat's add-ins for Word are truly appalling.
