Does anyone know of a way to use Adobe Acrobat 5.05 with Word 2003 (to
convert a Word document to pdf)? I know there is an instability but I can't
afford to update to Acrobat 6 or 7.

Try it and see what happens. My guess is that you might have problems
clicking on "Create Adobe PDF" on the Acrobat toolbar, but you can
probably print to the Acrobat PDFWriter printer driver and the Acrobat
Distiller printer driver. Or try googling for one of the many shareware
and freeware Acrobat clones that are now available... they don't have
all of the functionality of Acrobat, but the price is right and they
might work well enough for your needs.

I believe if you remove the template macros that it installs into Word
Startup, then it should work fine. You will just have to use File, Print and
select the Acrobat printer rather than using the command buttons it should
install.
