Act 2000! runs slow and occasionally crashes

Hi. I work in a small office which uses Act 2000! to
manage 500 records. One of the biggest complaints from
users is that our machines run slow when Act is open. I'm
researching new conact management applications but Act is
the cheapest for what we need...a way to track customer
addresses and notes. Why do our systems run slow when Act
is open? Are we going to have this issue with a new
application? Thanks.
