Thanks to all for your help to date. I read Lon's ebook last night and I
have some additional quesitons about the ACT to BCM transition. I think I
know many of the answers but I don't like them so I'm looking for other
solutions that may not exist. I have yet to purchase BCM for Dummies but
intend to do so. If the answers are in there, just let me know and I'll
search them out.
I want to transfer from ACT 2005 (v 7.0) to Office 2007 Outlook w/ BCM.
ACT2005 is loaded on the laptop w/ XP that I previously used. I bought a new
laptop earlier this week and it has Office 2007 w/ Vista.
1. Lon stated in his extremely well written book that transfering ACT
directly into BCM required that both software be loaded into the same
machine. My software (ACT and BCM) are loaded on diffent machines w/
different operating systems. Can the transfer still be made if you use a
router to connect the laptops or a Belkin Easy Transfer Cable?
2. If #1 doesn't work, I understand that I can export (or backup) the data
in ACT and transfer it over but it doesn't transfer the Notes/History section
of ACT. Is this true? This is one of the primary sections that I need to
transfer so this solution probably wouldn't work for me.
3. If I do need to load ACT on my machine w/ BCM in order to effect a
transfer, must I load ACT 2007 since this machine utilizes the Vista
operating system? If so, I will have to buy the software that I don't want
just to make the transfer. This is one of the things that I am trying to
avoid by consolidating my contact management to Office.
If anyone has any solutions, I would be grateful. It looks like I will have
to purchase ACT 2007 in order to load my ACT 2005 data on my new machine and
transfer it to BCM. I hope that I am wrong so I'm welcome to any ideas.
Thanks,
Darin
