In Word 2003 I don't have a task pane with that name. Possibly the Getting
Started or New Document task pane? Have you tried clicking the Office
button?

I hope that I can control the ribbon in a similar way then - I'd written a
vsto based application that created controls in the document action task
pane

Yes, it's gone. You should find whatever it contained on the Ribbon.

You can use VSTO to create your own custom task pane.
What kind of controls did you create?

Thanks for that Patrick

They were controls that managed adding and editing smart tags in the
document according to a set of business rules - they also created xslt
transforms according to the background wordml of the document.

This was in the previous version of VSTO - I'll have to see what the new one
can do - I've got a feeling that a lot of it may need to change - but it may
be easier in new VSTO

I'll probably come back with more questions later.

Hi Athos,

Please read http://blogs.msdn.com/jensenh/archive/2006/02/13/530965.aspx
And http://pschmid.net/blog/2006/06/09/20
Those two posts should give you an idea whether you should be putting
your controls in a taskpane or in the Ribbon in 2007.

Basically, the Office 2003 VSTO solutions should continue to work in Office
2007. But you need to install the VSTO 2005 SE runtime, I believe. "Soon", VS
3.0 with VSTO 3.0 will be available, which will give you the option of taking
advantage of some of the newer stuff in Office 2007.

Best place to get help and ask questions is the VSTO forum. As you've noticed,
the folks here in this *end-user* newsgroup aren't familiar with what you're
doing :)
