Activated Trial not working

I have downloaded, installed, opened, activated the trial version of OneNote.
However it appears not to have activated. Everything is greyed out and not
working - like it is in Read Only mode. When I try "Activate Product" in
the help menu it tries to convert the product to the full program but will
not accept the product key. Does the trial actually work so you can trial it
or is "look at it blank" the best that the trial does? Is there any place to
get help with activation problems?

The "acadmic" trial of the first version of ON I used.
It was fully functional but was said to have a 90 days limit.

The only restriction was that a week later (when our staff finally had
managed to get the licence key for our campus licence) I could not
just enter the new key. I had to uninstall it and make a new insdtall
from our "volume licence" CD.

But there were no shortcomings with the trial version.

I don't remember any details of the install und and activation
procedure.
I just entered the product key and that was it.
Is there any place to get help with activation problems? --

You may perhaps call the MS hotline on this.
