Activating Overtype Mode with Insert Key

Rich

I am using Office 2003. I used to be able to use the insert key to change
back and forth between strike-over text in a document and inserting new text.
The only way I can make this function work (where the OVR appears on the
bottom of the document) is to go through Tools/Options/Edit and clicking on
"Overtype Mode". I then have to change back to no Overtype Mode. Can
anybody help???? I have tested the insert key function in the office search
bar and in windows wordpad and it works correctly.

Do you actually read the replies to the messages you've left in other
newsgroups? Here's one I posted earlier today in the docmanangement group:

When you tap the Insert key, do you see OVR on the status bar toggling
between black and gray?

If not, then make sure that Tools - Options - Use the INS for paste is not
enabled.

You can double-click OVR on the status bar to toggle overstrike mode on/off.

If it turns out that the Insert key isn't doing anything at all, you can
reassign it as follows:

1. Press Ctrl+Alt+plus sign on number pad. This changes the mouse pointer to
a cloverleaf pattern.

2. Double-click the OVR indicator on the Status bar. This will cause the
Customize Keyboard dialog to appear.

3. Click in the Press new shortcut key box, and press the Insert key.

4. Click Assign, then click Close.
