Activating

Currently I am a student studying abroad in Poland and a few months back I
picked up the OneNote 2007 trial. I found out recently that my trial expires
on the 28th. I went on to NewEgg.com and picked up a copy of OneNote 2007
Student. The CD and key was shipped to my home back in the United States and
my brother sent me the CD key. While trying to convert the trial to the full
version in an effort to not lose my notes for the semester and continue using
the program. My CD key gets rejected while trying to activate, I have had my
brother double check and resend my key just in case, and it still gets
rejected. I have a genuine copy of OneNote 2007, but I can not use it and I
can not reinstall it from the CD because the CD is in the United States while
I am in Europe. I am also not able to get Microsoft technical support because
I do not have a product ID since I can not install it.

My question, what options do I have other than having the CD sent to me?
I have tried having my brotehr install it on his computer and send me the
product ID to use Microsoft support, but it requires activation before
installation, and I wouldn't want it to complicate things further. Any help
would be great, thanks!

Are you possibly using a Polish version of Windows? Are you connecting
to the North American Mirosoft site?

Assuming that you type the code in correctly, the activation system might
be getting confused if it somehow detects the Polish setting. I'm not
completely sure.

There should be a phone number option for activation. More details can
be found here on the process:

The particular phone number to be called will depend on a few factors,
but should be listed on the activation wizard.

Maybe you can communicate with your brother via IM and have him call the
activation center and you can cut/paste the various numbers and codes
required for the activation on your computer via IM while he is on the
phone.

The trial you've installed is a Retail OneNote, and the product you've bought
is Home and Student. The functionality is exactly the same, but licensing is
different so it's impossible to use the key from one product to activate the
other (don't ask me why it should be so complicated, I don't get it myself).

Basically you either need to reinstall OneNote on your machine to have H&S
version installed and then use the key your brother has sent you (if you can
borrow a CD from a fellow student of yours to install, it's fine because the
activation by the key you've bought is what matters; otherwise your brother
will have to mail the disk to you). Note: reinstall won't affect your notes,
you'll have full access to them after the reinstall.

Or you need to buy a retail key (either by converting OneNote online, or by
buying another box) and use it to activate you currently installed version of
OneNote.
