Hope this works this time.

Some of you no doubt heard of the Katrina situation from a couple of years
ago. Well, thankfully, I am a SURVIVOR!!!! Ya-whooo!!

In it my computer and original disks were blown ... heaven only knows.
Luckily, thru the assistance of others, I've been able to acquire another
computer and Windows XP ... genuine I might add.

But all that I have of my Office 2003 version is the original back-up disk I
made at purchase; which was stored off site ... thankfully ... along with my
data disks.

Today I decided to re-install Office and immediately got the activation
notice ... which I did by checking the telephone option. That exposed the
long boxes of letters and numbers which I needed to call in to the technican.
Upon telling him of the situation, he gave me a series of more numbers to
put in ... and then got the message that the product key was used up.

With that, he advised he could not help me any further. I detailed to him
my situation and asked for a supervisor ... with him giving me a level up
technican. In telling her the details, she informed me that since I did not
have the 'original' disk ... now at the bottom of the Mississippi river ...
that I could not be helped.

This does not seem right ... IMO!! While I openly acknowledged the absence
of the 'original' disk ... and the computer as well, certainly there should
be some leeway since I do have the original back-up with the original product
key. With funds and housing being as precarious as they are, we just don't
have the funds to spend on purchasing new versions ... which are much costly
now than they were in 2003.

Any and all ideas accepted ... along with the prayers as well.

Hopefully someone from Microsoft is monitoring this forum. Talking to the
overseas folks in India gets one nowhere it seems. It'll no doubt take a
Microsoft person, with some understanding, to enable the process of giving me
a replacement product key ... which the technican indicated what was needed.

Thanks

I realize this won't help at all but I sympathize with you and hope you
can resolve it.

I can only suggest that you call back and refuse to take "No" for an
answer, keep working up the ladder until you reach someone who can give
you a new key.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Thanks David. I took your suggestion and sent a more detailed explanatory
email to the follow-up from my first contact with them; inquiring whether or
not my issue was resolved. So far no response; so it 'appears' that my
problems are of no concern to the overseas group.

Sure wish someone within the American Microsoft forum was reading this forum.

Hi Chuck,

It's possible that the activation file is damaged. The steps in Method 2 of this article may help:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903275/en-us

The activation folks are probably not going to be the ones to help with a replacement CD. You may want to contact the MS folks at
the 800 number listed in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302822/en-us?FR=1
to explain the situation.

Believe it or not David ... and Bob, the other poster ... after getting
informed by the folks in India, and the lady in Canada, I was pretty much
dejected inside.

Then, yesterday, early morning ... was not even up yet ... west coast time
.... the phone rang and there was a fellow at the other end, named Dave by the
way, who indicated he was sending me a new replacement cd.

I was floored; and almost teared up. After feeling dejected as I had been,
to suddenly out of the blue get a kind response was a shock. Then, later on,
I also got an email notice with an order number reflecting that indeed a cd
is on it's way. All I can say at this time is .... PTL!!!

Was that you by chance Dave???????

Sometimes people do help. Remember that kindness the next time you are in a
position to help someone with a problem - even if it's only to open the door
for a woman with a baby carriage or someone in a wheelchair.

No, I wish it was, I'd sure feel good about it!

I'm delighted it's worked out for you.
