Activation of OneNote 2007 beta fails after connection established

When I try to activate Microsoft OneNote 2007 (Beta) by selecting the Help
menu  Activate product, I am only given a choice to activate the software
over the internet. The other choice of activiation by telephone is greyed
out.

When I click next the Activation Wizard window appears and the software
begins connecting to the activation servers. The green bar progresses to
about one third of the way. However, after about 30 seconds or so the box
just disappears and no connection is established and activation is not
completed.

I have tried doing this again and again, at different times over the past
few weeks (sometimes in the dead of night, ealy morning etc,) and have not
been successful in getting it to work.

I have also disabled both the windows firewall, and my McAfee firewall, and
antivirus software. I have also tried connecting from home (cable DSL
connection, unsecured), at work (using a web proxy) , and from various other
points. I have been able to establish a perfectly functioning web conection
at all locations before attempting to activate.

I also uninstalled the OneNote 2007 (Beta) from my machine and reinstalled
from the Microsoft beta site. However, when I launch the reinstalled version,
the number of times the program can be run before features are disabled is
still the same as before I had uninstalled. Currently I have 23 chances
left.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
