Activation of Recently Lost Office Student 2007

Phil

Hello...

I recently as of May 4th of this year purchased Microsoft Home and Student
2007 Edition and I moved into a new home and the box with the software was
stolen. I contacted Microsoft and requested my registered activation key.
Customer Service asked me to provide proof of my purchase; which I did and
they informed me that I would have to pay a repurchasing fee of $25.00! I
asked why they just couldn't provide me the activation code as there must be
some record of me activating the product. Does any one out here know how to
get the code legally without having to pay another $25.00 plus shipping for
software I just purchased 6 months ago?

Sorry, Microsoft does not support stolen software.

If your car was stolen, would you expect an auto dealer to give you a free
replacement car?

You could turn it into your insurance company for reimbursement. Looking
after your property isn't Microsoft's responsibility.

I'm sorry...I don't understand what you mean? I purchased the software out
right. Meaning I own the right to have it and it was registered at the
time that I loaded it on my laptop. I am not looking for an illegal copy, I
want what I purchased.

You'll have to excuse Carey - a somewhat myopic view of real life......and I
think a shareholder in MS given the sheer number of replies about buying a
new copy.....
if you still have office installed but have lost your key, then there are
several freeware utilities that will find it for you.
One of the most frequently recommended is belarc.
get it here:

If I have Allstate insurance which I do then the answer to that question
would be yes, Bob. Thanks for the info. Continue to be a beacon for all of
us unsavory types who continue to make you look good even thought your a jerk.

Hi Gordon...Thank you so much for your assistance. I will just pay the
re-purchasing fee and get the software back. Unfortunately the reason why I
am asking about the activation key is because the orginal laptop that I
purchase blew it's harddrive and I recently purchased another. However, as I
for-stated, the original copy was stolen.

Thanks again,
Phil

Do you understand the meaning of "stolen"?
If someone stole a hundred dollar bill from
you, will a bank replace it? Use your head!

And you can't seam to understand that the OP had THEIR SOFTWARE STOLEN FROM
THEM - THEY ARE NOT USING SOFTWARE THAT THEY HAVE STOLEN.

Honestly Carey, get back to the funny farm and stop deliberately
misinterpreting posts all the time.

As I read Carey's suggestion, the point is not that the OP stole the software,
but that the fact that the software was stolen from the OP is not MS'
responsibility.

the OP posted that the CASE with the key on was stolen. NO mention of the
disks being in the case. The OP also asked whether there was a method of
obtaining the key from the installation.
Carey then responded with the comment "MS doesn't support stolen software"
which is in line with most of Carey's posts - crass, stupid, and an
unthinking response. Just look up his history and you'll find a string of
stupid blind responses to perfectly good questions. The man doesn't deserve
to be am MVP.....

And I agree with Carey on this. Even if the software was stolen from the OP along with his laptop .

Carey called it correctly as I would also have and I am now

"and the box with the software was stolen."

It could be read either way. "the box with the software [in it] was stolen"
for example.

Phil, in case it matters, you might want to pop in and clarify that.

That may well be; I don't know one way or the other. It's not really relevant
to the OPs problem so I'd just as soon not get into it.
