Activation of Windows and Office

I just got panicky when I realized that I don't remember
activating any of the Microsoft software. If I don't get
reminder messages, can I assume I did activate or that I
don't need to?

Yes.
For Office, open any Office application and go to Help, Activate Product. If
you Office has been activated, you will get a balloon message that the
product is activate.
For Windows XP, go to Start, All Programs, Accessories. If you do not see
an entry for activate product, Windows is activated.

Microsoft Office Service release one. However, I have heard some
Microsoft 2000 requires activation.

If you purchased the retail version of Office 2000 SR-1, activation was
included. If you just patched your retail Office 2000 gold to SR-1, it was
not required.

Yep, that's what happened. I didn't remember the details and it took a
while to verify the sequence of events, but I bought (was given, actually)
Office 2000 Premium, patched it with SR-1a and later with SP-3.
