Activation questions

Currently have Offixe XP Pro which I was perfectly happy with until I
upgraded the PC running it to Vista. Now whenever Outlook does
"Send/Receive", it prompts me for the email account password every time, even
though I have it set ot "remember password". Since XP Pro seems to be largely
unsupported now, it seems my only option is to upgrade...but I've heard all
sorts of problems related to "activation" of Office 2007. Maybe someone can
answer the following?

If I buy Microsoft Office Professional 2007;

1. How many times can I install it on the same machine?
2. How much if a "change" in the configuration of my machine will cause
Office to think it's been reinstalled elsewhere?

I'm concerned because I ran into teh same issue of activation limits with
TomTom...they sell their product with only TWO allowed activations...but I
had two faulty mobile phones which I had to return...so on the third one I
couldn't reinstall TomTom...and they were singularly unhelpful about it.

Password - a known 'bug' although 2003 and above is fully compatible
1) You can reinstall as often as is necessary, a retail edition can be
uninstalled & installed on another PC
If on line activation fails, phone activation is available
2) A combination of changes, only really relevant if you have an OEM edition

If its two good to be true it cannot be true
£405.98 on Amazon uk, $399.99 Amazon us (full retail versions) Note the
amazing MS exchange rate
Its cheaper to buy from your favourite, none dodgy, on line retailer than
direct from MS
If you are in the UK, you can buy in the US if you have the opportunity,
there's no differences in any English language version.

*sigh* I know...but part of me wants to KNOW exactly what the scam is...so I
think I'm going to buy it and see...£49.95 I can afford anyway, and it will
be worth the effort if I can post back here with exactly what is dodgy about
it.

If I bought a MS copy...does it come with more than one activation as
standard? i.e., does the EULA allow it to be installed on up to a number of
machines simultaneously, or just the one?

Failing that, the £150 ones on ebay sound good...

US option not really a goer...it's not the MS exchange rate, it's our
delightful government slapping on a 50% import tax...if I get it posted to
me, there's a good chance it will get impounded at customs anyway and they6'd
demand the import duty before releasing it. This is why MOST things will have
a "one for one" dollaround exchange rate, despit the actual interbank rate
currently being around 1.9:1.

There is no 50% import tax, from recollection its vat they charge

I had a friend send me Office 2003 Professional by US post and no
problems. He sent it by Global Priority and I had to sign for it. It
cost me 115 euros, including shipping. He also sent me four pairs of
Wranglers jeans via another shipment which cost me 85 euros, including
shipping, and I had to sign for that too and no problems. Next week,
he'll be sending me the new Devil May Cry game and some more jeans

There is no 50% import tax, from recollection its vat they charge
It depends which version you buy as to the EULA

That's a common misconception. It just so happens that the import duty for
most European Countries (and special trading partners, like Switzerland) is
pegged to the same as VAT - i.e. 17.5%. But that all goes out the window as
soon as you get to intercontinental countries. It IS import duty, believe me,
because I worked with it for a looooong time and I know how much of a pain it
can be.

And Alias, I'm happy you are getting your stuff...if the sender is prepared
to mark the item as a gift, then the import duty is not payable. that works
for "friends" buying stuff, but most companies will not be prepared to put
their ass on the line in that way. The fines for artificially designating
something as a gift are quite horrendous.
