Activation Wizard does not appear

AndrewS

I purchased a genuine Office 2003 S&T edition, the License indicates I can
install on 3 machines at home - Its running OK on a laptop.

We got a new desktop which came with a trial edition of office, which I
allowed to expire. I installed our S&T copy onto it.

I can’t activate it because the Activation Wizard does not open, the
Activate option within help is greyed out, Nothing happens if I click on
activate – so no option to activate by telephone – and presumably I would
still need the wizard to complete the process even if I had a telephone
number.

I have uninstalled all office programs and reinstalled. I have removed the
opa11.dat file but still no activate wizard.

I've looked at Article ID 313938, which suggests changes to the “registryâ€
but it does not seem to apply to Office 2003, only earlier versions. Is there
a similar instruction for 2003?

Please help – we can’t use office at all on our new family desktop – my kids
want to do their homework and they think I’m an IT expert!

Thanks

Andrew

Dear Carey,

Thank you but the instruction in Article ID : 823527 (Last Review : January
10, 2006
Revision : 3.1 ) does not work. I have already uninstalled/reinstalled and
deleted opa11.dat. I still can't get the activation wizard.
Please advise what action I should take next.

Regards

Andrew

Dear Carey,

Just to let you know I fixed it!

I found another thread which suggested I delete relevant registry entries. I
did the following:
Uninstall Office
Delete Office folders
deleted opa11 (no data.dat file present presumably does not apply to Office
2003?)
Renamed Config.msi folder
deleted registry keys as described in article ID 313938
reinstalled Office
opened Word
....and the Activation Wizard opened immediately!!
....and I activated and registered OK!!
Breath sigh of relief.

Suggest you/MS issue revised 313938 for Office 2003

Regards

Andrew
