Activation Wizard wont open in Office Enterprise 2007

I have a new computer running Vista Home Premium on which I installed a newly
acquired version of Office Enterprise 2007. I entered my product key on set
up and naively assumed that I had activated the product too.
It has now gone to reduced functionality mode which in effect renders it
useless. When I click to activate from within any programme, nothing happens.
The activation wizard does not open. I am in UK. There is an option to
activate by phone, but one does not get to speak to anyone and the
instruction given is to enter the code they give into the wizard which I
cannot open.........
I have tried uninstalling, but that did not help. I also tried system
restore to just before installed Office but that then said my vista was not
activated and then would not accept my key for that so I had to undo the
restore.

Any help would be gratefully received.

I should have added that I have also tried deleting the file opa12.dat as
suggested on the Office website, but that did not make any difference. I also
tried safemode, again to no avail.

Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ and click
on "Validate Office" to check if you have a "genuine"
version of Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 installed.
Post back to this thread with the results.

I went to the site, received this message:

Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007: Product Not Activated[0x80180101]

I followed the "next steps" link. It stated:
"Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007
Problem: The validation process could not be completed because a copy of
Microsoft Office® on this computer has not been activated."

Just for the record and in case it helps, my copy of Office was supplied by
Microsoft direct by way of an employee offer. I had to break a Microsoft
seal/certificate of authenticity to open the DVD box, so I am sure the
product is genuine. This is the only PC on which I have attempted to
install/activate the product. There is a telephone helpline, but at just over
£240 per enquiry it is not a route down which I can afford to go and I know
that my firm is unable to provide any support.

I also own a valid copy of Office XP 2002, but only the standard version for
students & teachers. Would there be anything to be gained by trying to get
that working? If I remember correctly activation was pretty straightforward
on that. Might it then be easier to upgrade as it were to my new Enterprise
version, or would that just make things go from bad to worse?

I appreciate your taking the time to try and assist me. Thank you.
