I had a trial for Micrsoft and I have a product key to keep it and convert.
When it asks for the product key and I put it in it says it's wrong. where do
I need to go to put in the number so i can convert??

Are you sure that the product key you have is for OneNote, and not for
Office? Sometimes the OEM will install a licensed version of Office (and
include the license key for it in the PC's packaging) and also install a
trial version of OneNote.

OneNote is not sold as a component of an Office SKU, and requires that its
own license and license key be purchased.
