hi,

I got office student 2003. It says I can install it on 3
computers. I reacently had to flatten my HDD and reinstall
everything. When I reinstall Office and I activate it will
this count as the "second computer" even though it's the
same one? what will happen if I have to flatten my HDD
again? after the third time will I no longer be able to
use Office, or will I have to buy a new licence?

hope you can answer my questions...

I should count as the same.

I had it insalled on 2 systems. Then a few weeks later did a complete clean
OS install on both, then reinstalled Office03. Not one hitch, on either
WinXP or Office03.

I emailed tech support and they said:

"...as you have mentioned that you formated your drive and
installed Office again, so that would be counted as
another installation. If you would have just reinstalled
your operating system without formating your drive and
installed Office, that would n't have been counted as
another installation..."

Hope it helps others.

Hi Steve,

Did the email you received have an SR (support request)
ID number on it? If so, what is the number.

The information is sort of misleading. It is possible
that when you activated it on the same computer with another
hard drive that it may have been seen by the activation autocheck
online as a different computer, but it would not have 'counted'
as a computer as far as how many instances you can use Office
for (remembering it's 3 devices for the same user <g>) and activate
although you may need to use the telephone activation method
to speak to a MS technician when activating in some cases.
