Active Directory sync with MSP 2007

Resource name in our AD is in the format "Last Name, First Name" which
I would think may not work well for EPM. Multiple resources in plans
are delimited by a comma and folks are used to seeing resource names
in "First Name(space)Last Name" format. Moreover, it would be
inconvenient to use AD synchronization because any manual correction
on the EPM side would be overlaid during the next sync.

Is there anything we could ask from our AD support folks to help get
around this (e.g., perhaps requesting a custom user field that we
could use for mapping to EPM) or are we "stuck" with "Last name, First
Name"?

It would be possible to write a server side event to sync custom AD
attributes, though I'm not aware of any samples/case studies.
