Active Resources Showing Up Inactive

B

Barbara Lindsey

We are running MS Project 2002 Server, MS Project Professional 2002 and
SharePoint Team Services for Web Access. We have resources that are active
in the Resource Pool, active in Web Access administration yet they show up as
inactive on some of the projects that they are assigned to (you get a message
when you open the project with a list of resources that are inactive). Has
anyone else seen this?

Is it possible that these resources are local resources in the project plan?

They are not local resources in the project plan. This seems to be
happening on many of our projects. Have you seen this happen before?

I've seen things like this, and typically indicates that there's a
disconnect between the resource and the actual resource in the Enterprise
resource pool. IOW, it's a local resource in the plan, or somehow has become
a local resource. Active/Inactive is a resource level attribute that can't
be set on a plan by plan basis.

You're running an old version of the software, and I don't know how current
your system is with updates. This could be the result of software bugs or
user error, or a combination.

Thanks for the information. We are running 2002 without SP1. I don't know
if SP1 corrects this problem. We are in the planning state for upgrading to
2003.

Actually, we're experiencing the same issue but with Project Server 2003 SP1
and MS Project Professional SP1--.
-This started happening after we created cross linked projects, through a
master as instructed here. We did not save the Master.
-The indicated inactive resource is actually active, verified by using
PWA->ADMIN->MANAGE USERS AND GROUPS.
-The cross linked projects which show the inactive resources has a duplicate
resource defined for 1 or 2 of the inactive resources but not for all of the
inactive resources indicated in the resource sheet.
- The plan with the inactive resources also has a duplicate Calendar defined
that know one here created. Example; our standard calendar is named 'X' the
duplicate calendar is named 'X1'.
Can anyone shed some light on what maybe happneing here????

Symptoms being equal does not guarantee similar causes. In your case it
sounds as though some corruption has been introduced to one or more of the
plans involved.

Understood, pure specualtion on my part, but my thought was somewhere during
the leveling process with all projects open, the cross linked project in
question lost connection with the server, the ERP. Inorder to resolve the
lost connection Project setup a temporary calendar, X1. How the inactive
resources were created and duped is anyones guess.
Anyway, we deleted the resources in question, the X1 calendar resolved own
its own.
I appreciate your time and response. Should we discover what occurred and a
possible solution or workaround we will respond to this post.
