Activesync won't install on Win 2000, Office 2000. Any ideas?

I've tried to install ActiveSync 3.7.1 under Win 2000, Office 2000. It gets
to 92% complete and hangs. This has happened with the CD that came with my
phone and the download from the Microsoft website. I can't uninstall, so
have deleted the ActiveSync folder and tried again - same result.

Anyone got any ideas whats happoening and how to overcome it?
