Activities move on their own

Hi there,
For no reason some activities at random move to another part in th
schedule. i.e. line # 11 for no reason moves to another row positio
e.g. after row #30.
I have to then manually go and move them back to where they belong
This is very frustrating and time consuming.

Any ideas

Say more?

: does this happen only when opening the file?
: once it moves, does it stay there?
: just one record?
: do other records move?
: you say it's random, but does No. 11 always go after No. 30?
: Does it happen when you apply a view and does that fiew have a sort
specified?
: Have you looked at sorting and grouping and is this a root cause?
: when you say "row", what do you mean? While Project displays task
records in rows, the rows can be displayed in any order. The default
order is by the field "ID", but "ID" numbers do change and you can sort
by any other field.

Hi,
: No this happens whilst I am busy with the file. When I make any
change in the file
: Yes it stays there once moved and retains its original Id number. So
I get for example Id #: 45,46,47,3,4,48,49 The numbers that move are
either one or sometime 2 or 3 at a time. If I dont save the project and
close and re-open then the Id numbers return to their proper positions
: No it happens to many records at different places
: Its very random the rows jump to any position
: I am working in View Gantt chart with no views
: Please explain how I check for Sorting and Grouping - all my columns
are sorted by Id (Ascending)
: The Id number moves to another position but not always to the same
position. The Id number stays its original numbers till I manualy move
it. i.e it is 1,2,3,4,5,6 then randomly moves to say 8,9,3,10,11

Unless there is a macro running, or some sort of nefarious software
running, I find it hard to imagine how it would be doing this randomly.
That's not how computers work.

: could you be running some sort of macro/function that is programmed to
do this?

: take a look at Project's sorting and grouping and see if it as you
want. Two ways: right mouse click on a column and pick sort by, or
Menu: Project/Sort, or Menu: Project/Group

*Something* is telling the computer to re-arrange things.

As you say, when you manually move a task to a new position, it will
pick up a new ID. ID's are not fixed numbers. The field Unique ID
remains unchanged.
