Actual and Remaining work

My resources update me by "Hours of work done per day or per week: Resources
report the hours worked on each task during each time period". This is
reflected in MS Project when resources update me.

In the 'Work' view, the remaining and actual work is the same as what the
resources updated me which is what i want. However in the 'Entry' view its a
little bit different. Sometimes it works, sometimes it dont. For example, I
estimate the duration of Task A = 30h and the resource Actual work on it is
9h and remaining work 0. The duration decreases to 15h in Project.

I know that duration and Work mean 2 different things. What I dont
understand is why Project decreases this to 15h and not 9h. Yes all my task
types are 'Fixed Units'. Is project suppose to be doing this? If it is, then
i dont think this view is giving accurate info!

Hope someone out there knows what i am talking about!

The 15 hours comes because the resource worked on the task for two days - 5
hours on day 1 and 4 hours on day 2. The reality is that if you looked at
the timephased data on an hour to hour basis for each day, you will see that
the resources hours are evenly distributed across the working time. I would
expect it to be 16 hours duration, unless the working calendar only had 15
hours for the 2 days.

I had a feeling that might have been the case. thanks

Is there a way to get Project to split the task so that in the 'Entry' View
the Gantt Chart would show 5hours on day one, split this task to 4h on day 2??
