Hi,
We have a project plan in which we have tasks arranged under release
(x.x.x) summary tasks. However, some tasks do not get finished in that
release and may get carried forward to the next release. We are
thinking of copying the task from its original release summary task to
the new summary task. The objective is to keep the original actual work
intact.
When we copy the tasks to the new release and go to resource usage or
task usage view, the task does contain the actual hours for each
resource. For example, in the original task resource 'A' had 1 hour of
actual work on Monday July 25 and 8 hours of work was planned for A on
that task. However, when this copied task is published, the resource
doesn't see these actual hours on the right-hand-side of the timesheet.
However, the left-hand-side still shows the 8 planned hours of work and
1 actual hour of work.
If A reports another hour of actual work on Tuesday July 27, updates
the project manager and the project manager accepts the update, the
plan in project professional now shows that the assignment has 7 hours
of planned work, 1 hour of actual work, and 6 hours of remaining work
i.e. the previous actual work is subtracted from the planned work.
However, in the resource's timesheet, it shows 7 hours of planned work,
2 hours of actual work, and 5 hours of remaining work. Two points:
1. Unless I am missing something, there's obviously a discrepency in
what we are looking at in Project Professional and the PWA timesheet
view.
2. We have some other options in mind (e.g. a custom field to record
the release in which the task was finished instead of making the
release a summary task). However, if there is a way to copy a task and
keep the actual hours worked per day per resource intact?
Any solution, workarounds, or pointers will be highly appreciated.
Regards
