Actual Work Changes?

I have a task in MS Project Server that is fixed duration and is effort
driven. I've been manipulating data to set my project just right, but I've
noticed the following. If I press the "delete" key while my cursor is in the
duration column, MS Project populates Work AND **Actual Work for that task.**
Why is MS Project populating Actual Work?
