I don't know the official way, but I do know how
to "cheat" it:
- split your screen into gant view and task usage view
- in the yellow section on the right in the task usage
view window ensure that "work" and "actual work" is
showing by right clicking on the yellow.
- view must also be zoomed to show week days
- type 1 hour the next day in the "work" row in the yellow
- MS project will say that it is out of original dates but
click "OK" anyway
- Where the actual value is that you are trying to clear
type 0 hours - all of the sudden the 1 hour you added the
next day jumps to the day you originally had it, clears
the "actual work" row
- Now just change the "work" back to the number of hours
it was supposed to be
