Actual Work mismatch

I

Ingrid Weng

I found that one of the task's actual work in Project Professional is not
equal to the data inputed from PWA.
I retrieve the data inputed by resource and brek it into daily record from
MSP_WEB_WORK, there is no data on 12/1, but the Project Professional shows
data on that day by using Resource Usage view, and, the actual work is also
mismatch.
This issue occured after applying 'Sync to Protected Actuals'.

I found KB838009 - Actual Work submitted by a resource in Project Web Access
appears incorrect after you synchronize in Project 2003
But both my Project or Proejct Server 2003 applied SP1 already.

Any idea what else I should do? Please help! Thanks in advanced.

Yes,

There is a possibility you can try.
It probably happens only in projects or tasks that have a fixed duration.
Project 2003 SP1 has a bug which treats null values (no work written) as null
instead of zero.

Your solution would be to write an actual of zero: i.e. "0" instead of
nothing.
The other solution is to implement the microsoft msp2003 sp1 hotfix on this.

We are considering to implement the hotfix ourselves as we have very
unlikely actuals on some admin projects. pushing a real zero to the server
solved our problem.

I hope this helps.

HI There
I have the same problem, do you know the Knowledge Base ID on the fix, I
cant seem to find it.

Thanks

It consists of a server patch and a client patch
KB Article Number(s): 895120 for the client
KB Article Number(s): 897706 for the server.

that is the last hotfix before sp2 I was told bij Microsoft. I don't know
whether it is the specific solution but hotfixes are cumulative. You can also
call Microsoft on this one. Hotfixes are free. We are testing it on this
moment. If it solves the issue I will keep you posted

HI Arlo
Thanks for your reply, the server hotfix must have been a tricky one to find.
Is it only some kind of a "view" bug, or are the wrong values actually
stored?. Do we have to do a lot of cleanup work afterwards?

Kind regards
claus

YES,

you will have to do a lot of clean up!
What happens is the following: Things start to go wrong on the moment there
is planned work (remaining work) planned on a task. Project will fill the
notify my manager of time I will not be available to work screen.

When updating the hours this is the case:
I have planned vacation the whole week for 8 hours a day (done on purpouse
OR by having remaining work in a task in an admin project). You do not have
to write these hours as actual hours. EPM does that for you. When for example
you have
written hours on monday through thursday but not on Friday. EPM will treat
those planned work values as actual work and updates that in the project plan.

The resolution is:

Select the specific project. Open the specific project. Set work to ZERO for
all tasks and publish. Select NO on the sync to actuals. This will push zero
planned work to all timesheets. For each resource the timesheet has to be
updated again and accepted. Select NO again on the sync to actuals. When it
is finished you can save and publish and sync to actuals.
The problem is gone for the particular project.

Please try this. If it seems to complex you can also contact me on my
personal mail. (e-mail address removed)
