"Actual Work" scattered in the future dates???

L

Leonard

Hi, we're a company of around 40 persons, with around 20 active projects. We
use timesheet and task update to track task. Here's what's wrong:

Randomly, the Actual Work would appear at the future dates and they usually
have a 3-decimal value....

Any idea what might caused this and how to resolve this issue?

THANKS!

Leonard:

You should have your system updated to the latest cumulative update released
in December. Some issues with these symptoms have been fixed, however I'm
aware of some that have not been fixed. What patch level are you running?

FYI - I opened up a ticket with microsoft regarding a similar issue.
I opened this issue with them before December 16 CU, and now the
recommendation is to install the update. Installing the CU will NOT
fix the problem, but rather allow me to fix the problem. Are you also
unable to fix the future hours without having your start and end dates
change?

L

Leonard

Hi Gary, thank you for your timely answer.
We're to the latest updates for Office and Project Pro 2007
However, could you send me the link for the lattest Project Server patch
or/and Sharepoint patch if necessary?

L

Leonard

Hi Greg, we don't have anything start and end dates change, but just future
actual values in some tasks for random resources.

Yeah, we're fully up-to-date for both CU and updates.

How did the CU allowed you to fix your issue? is it fully fixed without any
comebacks?

Thanks for your inputs!

Hi Gary, I'll be more than glad to help you to help me resolve the problem.
How can I find the SR number? Thanks!

L

Leonard

IS there anyway to contact you once I have my SR number? Really appreciate
your help.

The latest updates are the December Cumulative updates for both server and
the client.

Send it to me at the email address I use in the NG, don't forget to remove
the "nospam"

We've also encountered the issue when using "Sync To Project Actuals"
after opening up a plan after accepting task time. I provided MS with
examples and they did reproduce my issue and are logging it in their
system as a bug. I don't have any bug id's are anything, but I will
sure as soon as I am given one. Not sure if you have been using this
function in MS Project, but in some cases, it does cause actual work
to be scattered into the future.

Has there been a post on how to correct a plan that has this? We have
our PWA settings set to "Only allow updates through PWA", so we don't
allow our PMs to change actuals in their plans. The only way I have
been able to correct is to have a downtime period for our users and
uncheck the updates option and manually match up timesheet/task time
in the plan.

I suspect that this is the same problem. Another poster who is experiencing
the problem notes that:

----Performing a Synch to Protected Actuals can fix the scrambled actuals if
you perform this action immediately upon opening the schedule (after the
anomoly occurs) before you save or publish.----

We've observed that using the Sync to Protected Actuals can exacerbate the
problem when used after this window of opportunity closes.

From our internal testing a MSProjectExperts, we believe that there is
corruption occurring in the update records, which would explain how
synchronizing to protected actuals can make the problem worse. However, we
have not received confirmation of this from Microsoft. Because the database
is not documented and these are internal use only, we are making an
"educated guess" based on a little reverse engineering.

Hello Gary,

We are about to install the update of December but want to know if anyone
has succeeded in solving this problem by doing so.

We have everything through April cum installed and don't see that this
problem is corrected. Any word??

Jen:

The patch fixes new occurrences of the problem. Any bad data in the system
at the point you apply the fix, still needs to be corrected by hand. If that
doesn't address your comment/question, please start a new post and explain
the exact behavior that you are seeing.

It appears as though the projects that were experiencing this condition on
the 07 side were out-of-sync in 03 at the resource level.

The entire project was synced (AWP = AW) but when we looked in Resource
Usage view we found that Actual Work actual DID NOT match at the daily level.
So we synced on the 03 side and remigrated.

Thanks
