Actual work updated by project manager

G

Gil

Hi All,

I would appreciate any help on the following topic (Using Project
Server 2007, hours done per period method).

I have a project that started a month ago, and some of the tasks have
been completed already, some of them are being worked on right now,
and the most of the tasks are scheduled to the future. Only now I am
creating the plan.

I created the project with all the assignments, also with those which
are completed already.
How can I update the plan with actual work that has been done in the
past by other resources, without requiring the resources to update
retroactively their my tasks page with work they have done few weeks
ago?
I wanted to update this past work myself, through Project Professional
actual work field, but I got the "actual sync" warning... I DO want
the "restrict user updates" option in the server setting page to be
checked, since I think it is important that project manager can't
updates actual values entered by resources.
So what are my options?
How can I capture actual work from the past?
Is it possible to allow modifying actual work through Project
Professional only for specific projects or is it all-or-nothing
scenario?

Gil.

You will need to ask the Project Server administrator to temporarily disable
the "restrict user updates..." permission while you manually enter progress
against tasks already completed in the project. To status these tasks, you
might want to use the task Tracking table, which contains all of the columns
you need. Apply any task View, such as Gantt Chart, and then click View -
Table - Tracking to view the Tracking table. After you status the completed
and in-progress tasks, save and publish the latest schedule changes, and
then ask your Project Server administrator to re-enable the "restrict user
updates..." permission again. Hope this helps.

Dale, it surley helped a lot. I just hope that after re-enabling the
"restrict user updates" I will not get the "out of sync" messeges
again, regarding the actual I already input to the plan.
Thanks again,
Gil.

Before you re-enable the permission, make sure you publish the project.
Hope this helps.
