AD Domain Change

The AD domain for project server users (windows auth) is being changed. What
is the easiest way to update the users in PWA (we don't use ad sync)? And is
WSS also impacted?

Thanks for you help. Scott.

Scott:

You could do something as simplistic as open the resource pool and press
Ctrl+F and see how fast you can "replace all."

This will get everyone who is in the resource pool. You'll still need to
change users who are not in the pool. You can do this through web access or
directly in the database. Before you change the domain name, make sure that
your built-in administrator account is active so that you have a working
logon for making this update to the system when the cut-over occurs.

Keep in mind that this applies to resources and Project Server users and
does not deal with the platform-level impact such a change entails. This
includes COM and other service accounts

Hi Gary,

I'm in the exact same boat as Scott was, but I'm much denser when it comes
to understanding what you wrote.

Say, for example, I have an old Windows user ID (i.e. "MYOLDDOMAIN\imauser")
that has tons of tasks and assignments in Project, that up until the fateful
day, the user was busily working away in PWA entering time, etc.

Then, one day, the network/domain Gurus changed the name of the domain and
the login name for that same user. Now the user is known as
"MYNEWDOMAIN\imadifferentuser".

So, is there an easy way to apply all the tasks, etc. to
"MYNEWDOMAIN\imadifferentuser" that were formerly applied to the domain
account of "MYOLDDOMAIN\imauser"? Is that what you were describing in your
response to Scott? If so, I don't get it... seems maybe you skipped a step or
two (remember, I'm dense).

I opened the Resource Pool in Project Pro (from the menu Tools/Enterprise
Options/Open Enterprise Resource Pool) and saw my list of old domain names.
Now I need to change them to the new domain names, but somehow keep the
association to the old domain names tasks and assignments.

Ctrl+F (Find?) didn't seem to do much. Am I totally clueless? I'd hate to
(somehow) list out every resource's task lists on a report (or something) and
delete the old names, install new names and then re-assign tasks to these new
resource names. (Let's not murk up the waters by worrying about users not in
the pool.)

So, I guess I'm begging here. Can you please explain, in great detail, each
step of the process for my user above? I would really, truly appreciate it.
Thanks a ton.

John
