Add a connection point to an existing shape

I have one instance of a standard shape, and I'd like to add an extra
connection point. I know I can move the connection points around on the
shape, but I can't find out how to add a point, other than defining a whole
new shape. Can this be done easily?

Have you tried the Connection Point Tool? Up on the tool bar there is the
Connector Tool (looks like a dynamic connector line) with a pull-down menu.
The help facility should be able to walk you through using it.
