Add a task from the PWA interface

Does anyone know how to add a task from the PWA interface?

Our company has just implemented Enterprise Project Server in our IT
department, but one difficult group has refused to use it to manage their
projects or resources. Overall their decision should have minimal impact
except for a handful of shared IT resources (Sys Admins and DBA resources).

Dilemma:
If the shared IT resources do not use EPS to log/track their Ecommerce work,
then their managers (who are in IT) will not be able to use EPS to
track/report on these resources’ tasks and/or availability nor will the
managers have an accurate view of their department’s overall allocation.
Maybe even more importantly, however, is IT will loose the capability to
differentiate/report on maintenance verses project-related tasks, which is
critical to our ability to plan effectively in the future.

We were thinking that we could set up a generic project w/in EPS called
‘Difficult Group Projects’ and assign each of the shared resources to that
project at something like 40% (which would put a limit on the resource’s
availability for the Difficult Group’s projects) then require someone from
the Difficult Group to enter each requested task into that project from the
PWA interface. A PM within IT would accept/approve the task, which would
assign the task to the IT resource and allow them to report time against it.

Unfortunately we have not been able to successfully add a task from the PWA
interface. Can someone help?

Also, does anyone have an opinion on our approach to this matter or another
suggestion?

Hi MaddieGirl,

For someone to create a new task using PWA, you need to provide the
appropriate permission to the users. Eg. go into Admin --> Server
Configuration --> and Allow "New Project Tasks" under the "Select the
features that you want to make available to users in Project Web
Access" section.

As for your dilemma, I'm not sure how you are going to get the
'difficult group' to enter time against a 'difficult group' project
plan if they refuse to use the system (I could be missing something).
From my limited experience with the EPM, if there isn't anyone (or
anything such) to make sure the time is being entered, it isn't going
to be done.

Hope this helps,

Marc
