Add Chat window

In many sites one can find chat / audio / video application windows for
communicating between users (similar to Windows Messenger but without
login).
I want to add this option in my site.
What is the technology that stands behind this application?

I waited and since no one replied, so let me try:

There are these types of add-in or software or services that you could
purchase for doing the work. But I am sure some experts can also develop
one for their sites too.

You could try search Google for "chat software", or an easy way is going to
one or two of the sites with that kind of service. In general, there is a
logo and a company name of the software/service company placed on the chat
Window. From there, you can do more research.
