Add custom tab to ribbon in office 2007?

I can't figure out how to add a tab to the "ribbon" I think that's what it's
called anyway. I want to add a tab with some of the commands I use most. I
can add commands to the quick access toolbar, but I want to be able to see
the name next to the command, and possibly add two or more tabs. Any help
would be much appreciated.

If you want to do it the easy way, get the RibbonCustomizer from
http://pschmid.net/office2007/ribboncustomizer. There is a free "light"
version and a paid full-featured version.

If you want to learn the methods of programming to do it yourself, see
http://pschmid.net/office2007/ribbonx.

So there is not a way to customize tabs in excel or word? Or custom
toolbars? I can't believe this wouldn't be included somehow.

I guess what I meant by "no way" was no user friendly way. We just had
office 2007 installed in our office, and I had assumed it would be easier to
use. Like I could right click on the open space by the tabs and select Add
New Tab, or something like that, and then drag and drop commands onto it.
Anyway, I guess that would be asking way too much.

It really isn't asking too much, and MS knows that lots of customers are...
shall we say "dismayed" ... at the minimal amount of customizability in
Office 2007. Although there are some technical and philosophical reasons for
the difficulties, I think the main thing is that the developers ran out of
time.

I hope that the next version will include better tools like the ones you
were looking for. In the meantime, we have to rely on third-party
applications.
