Add dynamic line to chart

Hi,

I often have the need to add limit lines, average lines, Standard Deviation
Lines, etc., to charts, but the way I do it currently is pretty clumsy. Is
there a more elegant way to do it?

Say that I'm producing a line chart that shows data values over time. I
have time on the X axis and the data plotted on the Y axis. Then I want to
put a horizontal line that shows where the Mean plus One Standard Deviation
is. I currently do this by adding another column to my worksheet and
putting the same number in each cell in that column where the number is the
Mean plus One Standard Deviation. This works fine, albeit clumsy, but now I
have the problem that I have to show the data (live) as part of my
presentation and I don't want to show that column (even hidden).

Isn't there some way I can cause a dynamic line to be drawn on my chart that
uses the data from only a single cell in the worksheet? E.g., if cell(5,3)
contains the value 1.34, I'd like to draw a horizontal line across my whole
chart that intersects the Y axis at 1.34.

Manually drawing a graphic line doesn't work for me because I have to move
it manually everytime the data changes, plus I can't find a way to get it
positioned precisely. If someone knows something I don't about using
graphic lines that would solve my problem, that would be welcome information
too.

Thanks!!

These were great! Thank you! I used the method in your third link and it
worked perfectly for my needs. :)
