Add-in already running

Brian Phillips

I have just installed Office 11 into Windows XP.

I immediately went to tools/options in Word and set my preferences.
This included changing all of the pre-set directories to one of my
choice (the same for all).

Now, whenever I open Word I get the message -

"The Global template Normal.dot is already open as an add-in program"

and if I click on the OK button all is well.

Is there any way in which I can stop this message being displayed?

Regards

Could it be that Normal.dot is not in the correct location, or there is more
than one copy of Normal.dot is various directories?

Thanks Howard.

Being unaware of the finer points of Word, I am not sure what is the
correct location for normal.dot.

I have done a search for normal.dot and the only copy I have is in -

"d:\word documents"

which is the directory that I entered into the options dialog for all of
the directories that user could set.

Any more information that you can give would be most welcome.

it is safer to use the default directories expected by word.

But you do appear to have the problem I indicated.

If all of the locations are set to be the same, then Normal.dot is indeed in
the Startup directory and the Templates directory, etc.

Go back to using Word's intended default locations and put the templates
where they belong.

I have restored the default directories as you suggest and deleted
normal.dot from the directory I specified. Now, I no longer get the
message about normal.dot already running.

Thanks Howard, I am very grateful.
