Add-in Fax Manager

B

Big Al

I started receiving a message when starting Outlook 2007 that some dll is
missing for the "Add-in Fax Manager" for Outlook, and I should contact the
manufacturer for an update. I don't ever remember installing any Add-In Fax
Manager, and don't have a clue what this is about. Any suggestions?

Open windows explorer and paste the path into the address bar. You can also
paste it into the Run field.

I found the file and deleted it with Outlook closed: I then restarted
Outlook and when I attempted to reply to a message, the error reappeared:
the error text is

"The Addin "FaxExtension" (C;Windows\System32\fxsext32.dll) cannot be loaded
and has been disabled by Outlook. Please contact the Add-in manufacturer for
an update. If no update is available, please Uninstall the Add-in."

I have searched Windows\System32 and the file they name is not present. I
cannot find anyplace to "uninstall" the Add-in, and I didn't even know there
WAS an Add-in. I am assuming the manufacturer is Microsoft, since I haven't
added any third-party stuff that messed with Outlook, to the best of my

I apologize for still having this situation, but I do appreciate your

I went there and there was nothing listed for FaxExtension, so I selected
Exchange Extensions from the drop down list and there were 3 items listed ...
something about a Google Desktop Search, FaxExtension, and Exchange
Extensions property pages. I unchecked Google DT Search and FaxExtension.
Since this is for a home machine, I'm not connected to an Exchange Server so
I'm not sure what the 3rd item is even listed for ... should I also uncheck
that? After I closed and restarted Outlook, it seems to no longer display
the error message when I reply to a message, so I'm guessing that this
worked, and a big THANKS for getting me to the right places.

I also noticed that there is a place to identify "disabled items", and it
lists the Business Contact Manager that I couldn't seem to get to work after
reinstalling Office 2007 & SB Accounting Express. Can I also ask you about
that problem?

You can uncheck the exchange extension property page.

Try enabling BCM then add the database back using file, data file

Brian and Diane,
I'm Charlie. I had the same problem. All I had to do was go into the
Tools/Trust Center and open the Exchange Client Extensions; disable (uncheck)
the Fax Extension; exit the Tool gracefully, and reboot my machine. It
worked!!! WHEW!!! THANK YOU for saving me a lot of pain every time Outlook
started up, as well as every time I tried to Reply to an email...
You're the best.... CR

The addin was in the drop down for FAX extensions. Worked for me, but am
curious as to whether or not the upgrade from Windows to VISTA took my FAX

%LocalAppData%?? Thanks for the response, sorry I'm lost in
where

I started receiving a message when starting Outlook 2007 that
some
dll is missing for the "Add-in Fax Manager" for Outlook, and I
should
contact the manufacturer for an update. I don't ever remember
installing any Add-In Fax Manager, and don't have a clue what
this
is
about. Any suggestions?

WIth Outlook closed, try deleting the (usually hidden) file
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\extend.dat
(on XP)
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Outlook\extend.dat (Vista)

Russ,

Thanks for responding. My VISTA Upgrade was one of those provided by HP as
a benefit when VISTA started hitting the market and new PC's weren't loaded
with it at the time. I have VISTA Home Premium; should I have FAX capability
with that. Wasn't sure if "Premium" in your response was intended to
represent "Business Premium", so thought I'd follow up with you. Thank you.

You must not have researched your purchase. Fax is only included in Vista
Business and Premium.

The addin was in the drop down for FAX extensions. Worked for me, but am
curious as to whether or not the upgrade from Windows to VISTA took my FAX
capability away. Could you follow up on that? Thank you.

Ok - this is 2007, so go to tools, trust center, addins - the fax addin
will
be listed there. Select the Com addins in the drop down and click Go.
Select it and click Remove. if its not there, select exchange extensions
from the drop down and Go.

I found the file and deleted it with Outlook closed: I then restarted
Outlook and when I attempted to reply to a message, the error
reappeared:
the error text is

"The Addin "FaxExtension" (C;Windows\System32\fxsext32.dll) cannot be
loaded
and has been disabled by Outlook. Please contact the Add-in
manufacturer
for
an update. If no update is available, please Uninstall the Add-in."

I have searched Windows\System32 and the file they name is not present.
I
cannot find anyplace to "uninstall" the Add-in, and I didn't even know
there
WAS an Add-in. I am assuming the manufacturer is Microsoft, since I
haven't
added any third-party stuff that messed with Outlook, to the best of my
knowledge.

I apologize for still having this situation, but I do appreciate your
assistance. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.
(This
is
on my home system and I sometimes don't get to it every day ...)

Try
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

(it's all one line)

when it opens, find and delete extend.dat
