Add-ins do not work

I have downloaded a few addins/powertoys and when I open onenote 2007 the
buttons are there and they are "on" but when I press them they turn "off" and
do nothing. Do I have to do something to get them to work? I have
downloaded favorites, printout manager, merge pages and search and replace
and none work.

Hi there. can I get some information from you?
1. Are you using Vista or Windows XP?
2. Do you know what version of the .net framework you have (if using Windows
XP)?
3. If Vista, are you an administrator? Did you disable UAC?
4. If you click Tools | Options | Addins, are they visible? Is the checkbox
to disable them checked?
5. Did you run the setup.exe or did you doubleclick the MSI?

I have XP,
I don't know what version of .net using but I am up to date on all updates,
including any .net that are available. (hope that helps - sorry)
The addins are visible.
I ran the setup.exe file
Thanks for your help!

Thanks. And was the checkbox from step 4 checked or not? Does toggling it
have make a difference?

Next set of questions:
1. Are you an administrator on the machine?
2. Can you look at the 4th reply on this page and see if it fixes the
problem (sorry the steps are sort of detailed):

Feel free to contact me via my blog if there are more system details you
want to share (other apps which always run, virus checkers/system optimizers
you may have, etc...)

The checkbox turning off all addins was not checked. Toggling it on and off
does not make a difference.
I am the only user on this computer and I am an administrator.
Another problem I am having with onenote that I asked as a separate problem
that may be related is I use a highlighter quite often in onenote and a
problem I have is I can never see where it is because it doesn't have a
curser. So I started using the straight line button with the highlighter so
it gave me the crosshairs cursor and a nice straight line. It worked great
until last night when all of a sudden I would make a line and the straight
line button would turn off. So each time I took my finger off the left mouse
button, I would have to go and press the straight line button again. I don't
know if these are related problems or not but I would love to be able to fix
this. A suggestion for the next (or a hotfix/powertoy) would be to give the
highlighter a cursor option because you really can't use it like it is unless
you have a tablet.
Thanks

Here's what I'd like you to try to get the addins working again.
1. Go to the folder in which you installed the addin(s).
2. copy the DLL file
3. go to the Windows\Assembly folder (this may be hidden)
4. Paste the file there
5. do this for each of the addins
6. Start OneNote

Let me know if that fixes the problem.

no that didn'tfix it. Should I take the .dll files back out of the windows
file? (I just copied them also the originals are still in
programfiles>microsoft>addins
thanks

Did you put them in the windows folder or the windows\assembly folder?

If you put them in the assembly folder, I would suggest removing them, then
uninstalling/reinstalling the addins.

If you put them in simple the windows folder, try moving them to the
\assembly folder in windows, restarting and seeing if that fixes the problem.

Other than that, I'm stumped. We're trying to narrow down why addins simply
quit working for some people - is there anything "out of the ordinary" with
your system?

I can't paste anything in the assembly folder for some reason. I am an
administrator though.
I don't think there is anything unusual about my system. I reinstalled XP a
few months ago so everything is pretty fresh.
Could there be something wrong with the onenote install? If you refer back
a few threads ago talking about my highlighter, I did a system restore to
before this happened and it is working correctly again. The addins however
still are not...
Thanks
