add jpg files to word documents

Hi

I have about 200 jpg files i need to insert into a word document. The jpg
files are approx 3mb.

As you can imagine the document increases a great in deal in size.

Is there a way I can decrease the size of the document? Either by
compressing the jpg files in word or is there a better way of inserting the
jpg files instead of insert/picture?

Compress the files in a graphics editor *before* you insert them in word.

You really need to have those images processed through an image editing
package - my guess is they came straight from a digital camera download &
you're scaling them in Word.

An 8 bit High Quality jpeg @ 300 ppi & print dimensions of 1"x2" shouldn't
be more than a file size of about 600K (or less depending on composition)
and occupy perhaps 150K of disk space.

Thanks for your help.

is it possible to insert the jpg as ole object?? i have tried and it
diplays the name of the jpg and not the actual picture. i thought inserting
as object would maybe reduce size?

Insert > Picture > From File > click the down arrow on the Insert Box and
select Link to File.

Hi

tried that but the picture is not displayed, its just a border. how do i
display the picture?

got it. had picture placeholders switched on in my tools and options.

And note that inserting the picture as an OLE object would greatly increase
file size.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I used Microsoft Picture Manager and
resized some of the pictures. It seems to have made a difference.
