Add New Tasks in PWA 2007

Dots

WHen my users add a new task to a project via the PWA My Tasks screen, they
are defaulting to 100% fixed units. Also, if they say the task is going to
take multiple days, the #hours jumps into the thousands. Our project plan
defaults are Fixed work or Fixed Duration.
Why would new tasks take on fixed units and 100% utilization??? This is
VERY frustrating to my users and project managers. HELP!

When a team member proposes a new task in PWA and the proposal is approved
by the project manager, the system creates a new Fixed Units, Effort Driven
task in the Microsoft Project plan. It a resource estimates the task will
take 2 days, the software assigns the resource at 100% Units over the 2
days, which equals 16 hours of Work. On the other hand, I have NEVER seen
the software generate Work in the thousands as you state. Regardless, the
presence of new tasks from PWA is always a training and performance issue
with your PMs. They will need to finalize the Units, along with either
Duration or Work, and will also need to set task dependencies as well.
There's no way to make this an automated process. Perhaps it would be wiser
for your PMs to tell their team members not to use this feature, and if a
new task is needed, the team member should simply contact the PM and allow
him/her to add the task directly to the Microsoft Project plan. Hope this
helps.

We've recently upgraded to Project Server 2007 and I've seen suddenly hours
in the 1000s as well! Haven't been able to trace yet what causes it but it
causes absolute havock when you try to level and don't realise!
