Add numbernig to Master Slide in .pot file

Is it possible to set numbering in the .pot Master Slide, so when it is used
in a Presentation, the numbering will be added too?

Using PP 2003 and everytime I set that up in the Master slide in the .pot,
the number doesn't show on the Presentation when I use the Slide Design and
use the .pot file.

Thanks for any help....
