Add-On that fills the IMAP gaps in Outlook?

Hello everyone. I've been a long-time fan of SlipStick since the Outlook
98 days. I just bought an iPhone this weekend and started making the
transition from POP3 to IMAP (Dovecot). I wanted to access e-mail on my
Apple iPhone and Outlook at the same time via IMAP. I'm currently using
Outlook 2003 (on Win2k) so I can't buy Outlook 2007. I read Outlook 2007
has better IMAP support. In the interim, if I use Outlook 2003 are there
add-ons to Outlook that will help fill the IMAP holes?

Specifically, I want the following:

* When an e-mail is moved to another folder, deleted e-mails will purge
when I leave that folder
* When an e-mail is deleted, the e-mail is purged and copied to the
Deleted Items folder
* Emails in Deleted Items are purged after a specified period
* When an e-mail is deleted, the next e-mail is automatically selected
and previewed.

There's probably more I can think of, but this is my list after using
IMAP for two days. I have to say the iPhone's IMAP support is much more
polished than Outlook 2003.

Thanks. I see there are some VBA, but I'm not having much luck trying to
automate some of the purging of deleted messages or moving to the Trash
IMAP folder. I'm also a Caelo Nelson Email Organizer (NEO) user, so
perhaps they will be interested in filling in some of the Outlook
holes.

Is this a case of Microsoft wanting to push Exchange Server they have
such lousy support for IMAP?

That's a good question, but I doubt that's the reason. Originally, IMAP was
designed to supplant POP, but it never took off on the server side of things.
I think the reason is that since mail providers were so uninterested in
supplying IMAP servers, Microsoft didn't invest much effort into creating a
robust client transport. Outlook is, in my opinion, one of the worst IMAP
clients, although I have to admit Outlook 2007 does a better job of it than
prior versions.

Nah. Microsoft cares little what mail server you use - they know the "little
guys" aren't going to use exchange. Outlook began as the exchange client
and is still heavily used in corps - while about 50% of profiles include an
internet acct, many of those also include an exchange account.

IMAP support was initially an afterthought back in Outlook 98 (it wasn't in
ol97) - pop was more popular and the resources went into working on pop (it
needed a lot of work too). Now that the pop experience is better they are
spending more on imap.
