Add option: Default "typing replaces selection: OFF"

In Office Word 2003, there should be a way to set the "typing replaces
selection" option to default to off. I have to uncheck the box on every
document I start. If this is possiable, please let me know how. Thanks

Options > Edit > [] Overtype mode (Remove the check mark) > OK

BTW I believe that IS the default. If it's not, then someone or something is
changing it.
