I want to add an unnumbered title page and a dedication page to the
front of this manuscript but not start the page numbers until the
first pageof text. How is this done?

make a section break where you want to re-start the numbering. There
are options in there for number formats too which will be useful.

Insert a Section Break at the top of your document. Put your Title and
dedication pages into the section you just created.

Put your cursor in the second section (doesn¹t matter where), which is your
original document. Go to Insert/Page Numbers. When you get the dialog, click
the Format button. You will see an option to ³continue numbers from previous
section² or ³start over² (something like that anyway). Select (you guessed
it) start over.

If you go into Format/Document (cursor still in you original document) you
can format the whole document or just the section you¹re working in. Go to
Layout, and you¹ll see an option for ³different first page.² You can, if you
want, use that to have a different number header or footer for the first
page in case you don¹t want the visible numbers to start until page 2.

Hope this helps.

Suggest you use headers or footers for numbering pages.

Best,

- Bill
