Add Skills to Cube Configuration

This is a question for Project Server 2007. I want to add the custom field
Skills to the Cube Configuration. I see all my other custom fields that have
lookup tables, just not Skills. I suspect the problem is that the field
allows multiple values. (A quick test of a test field that also has multiple
values confirms my suspicions).

Anyone know if this is by design? Or a bug?

Hi Jay,

this is not a bug and yes you are right every multivalue custom field you
set up will not be displayed in your cube. The reason for this is because an
OLAP cube does not know how values should be distributed if it consolidates
values within Dimensions.

This may seems not to important for skill sets, but for other custom fields
it is since it would mean that projects and task data ( e.g. cost, work)
would be double counted if you have a project in multiple values within a
custom field.

Thats why Microsoft decided not to inlcude multivalue custom fields in the
cube. A "work arround" for this would be to set up a "primary skill set"
custom field with only one option to choose. This would be displayed in the
cube (not sure if this would be sufficient for your reporting or analysis)
The second option would be to create your desired report in Reporting
Service. (means a little more work, but once done you always have the report)
I hope that helped

This does help. The Project 2003 system automatically picked up a "primary"
skill and put that in the cube. That's what I was looking for. It was kind of
a clunky solution and maybe it's better that it's gone in 2007.

Thanks for the response.
