Subject says it. I can't imigane that you took it out of Office 2003. I
sure hope you put it back in the next release. I could do without a LOT of
the MS Word features that makes Word so complicated as to be almost useless
and would gladly trade 2/3 of them for the Office Shortcut Toolbar back!

You can install the office SCB from a older version of Office or to
create a Shortcut Tool Bar for Office 2003 using the Windows task Bar.
Create a folder with shortcuts for all office programs. Right Click On the
Task Bar select Toolbars > New Toolbar and Navigate to the folder containing
your Office shortcuts and select it, click OK. However if you drag the
toolbar off the Task Bar and then later close after using the toolbar you
will need to recreate it to use again.

There are some other alternatives as well if you search the news group you
will find some of the other alternatives that are offered. I personally like
perfect menu for it's functionality

Hi everybody who are craving for the Office Shortcut Bar.
I using Office 2003 now and - as we all know by now - that version has
omitted that bar.
First of all: Why do you want the sidebar? I, personally, allways found it a
PitA. It takes valuable space away from your screen (unless you use wide
screens).
Second: What do you want to start? Word/Outlook/Excell etc.?
Well, do so using shortcuts previously positioned on the screen or use the
Start bottom.
Honestly, that is not so hard.
Now, what I want is the following:
I want to start a new mail message, a new calender entry, a new contact or a
new task entry without waiting for Outlook to either start up or return from
minimized state.
And thats where the old side bar actually WAS very useful: It was possible
to "steal" the proper shortcuts from the sidebar folder and copy them to the
desktop and voila - No irritating, space consuming sidebar, but all your
useful icons right before you. You could even start the screensaver instantly
if you were watching indecencies while your wife was showing up...
Today, with Office 2003, I have only been able to find the New Mail shortcut.
Its located here:
"C:\Programfiles\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\MAIL.OFT" and SEEMS to work
by starting a mail message within a Word document.
If anybody could locate something similar for calender, contact and task
entries - then we would be getting somewhere!
Best Regards
Jesper

Hi again.
I wrote something yesterday about creating icons on the desktop using the
MAIL.OFT file.
That doesn't seem to work correctly and that file has another funcion.
Now, to get some shorcuts to your desktop starting:
New Mail, New Appointment, New Tast and New Contact do the following.
Have a look at the properties in the shortcut for Outlook in the Quick Launch.
The path should look something like this:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /Recycle
Make a new shortcut on the desktop and include the path above, omitting the
/recycle.
Add one of the following options as to your liking:

/c ipm.activity creates a Journal entry
/c ipm.appointment creates an appointment
/c ipm.contact creates a contact
/c ipm.note creates an e-mail message
/c ipm.stickynote creates a note
/c ipm.task creates a task

This actually WORKS. The outlook program in itself does not appear on the
desktop, but surely some of it does start. However the shortcut works very
fast.
Mails, taske, appointments etc created this way DO enter the Outlook
program. At least when I checked today.

Any better suggestions are welcome.
This hint was taken from Outlooks own help file. Refer to that one if in
doubt.

hi hope this works there is a down load at microsoft downloads and it takes
you to a short cut bar download from punk software called rocket dock they
say it is like a copy off of the Mac anyhow i had downloaded it and using it
for the past 6 months works great and off the net you can get more icons to
really customize the short cut bar icons only problem is it is only one layer
compared to the multiple layers of the old but you can size it and alter its
appearance everything also comes with dividers to seperate the categories
good luck
