"Add to Work Menu" command disappeared

I have a strange problem in Word X. I intended to delete a doc's name
from the Work menu. To his effect I converted the cursor into the bold
minus by pressing option-command-hyphen. Yet, stupid me, by mistake I
did not click on the doc's name but the command in the Work menu. Since
I am using a German version of Word I do not know the exact English
term for the command, but it should be something like "Add to Work
Menu". In any event, this command is missing now. The Work menu is
still there but completely empty with no pop-up when clicking on the
menu itself.
I want my "Add to Work Menu" command back but I can't find it in Tools
-> Customise. I also deleted Word's pref files, but to no avail either.
Any advice would be very welcome.

Thanks,
Matthias

Hello Matthias.
That's strange, I did not know you could actually delete your "Add to Work
Menu" command like this. Anyway, here we go:
you were right to go looking for this command in Tools>Customize>Customize
Toolbars/Menus. In the category list on the left, you should see, if you
scroll down a little bit, an entry called "Work". If you click on that,
you'll see the "Add to Work Menu" entry in the list right next to it. Simply
drag that command to the Work menu (the Work menu in the toolbar that has
appeared, that is. The actual Work menu, along with all the other items in
the menu bar on the top of your screen will be greyed out). That should do
it. If you have any further problems, post back.

Tools>Customise>Menu Bar>RESET

(You need to select the Menu Bar item, then click RESET)

Cheers

Any advice would be very welcome.

First, toolbars are stored in templates - in this case probably your
Normal template, so trashing that should bring your Work menu back.

However, when I choose Tools/Customize and click on the Commands tab of
the Customize dialog, I can find the Add to Menu command by clicking on
the "Work" item in the Categories listbox (left-hand side of the
dialog), then dragging it to the Work menu.

An alternative would be to enter the Visual Basic Editor (Opt-F11), type
CMD-g to open the Immediate Window, and paste or type:

Commandbars(1).FindControl(id:=30100).Controls.Add id:=1725, Before:=1

followed by hitting Return. Type Opt-F11 to return to Word.

Thanks a lot, the reset command in Tools->Customize->Toolbars->Menu bar
worked! My Add to Work command is back again.

Greetings,
Matthias
